Janet D. Sheridan Scholarship - $500

Student qualifications:

1) Student is officially registered as a major in French, German, or Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages

2) Student has a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and demonstrates excellence in his/her area of language concentration.

3) Applicant will have completed coursework through the intermediate level and will have taken at least two foreign language courses at VCU by the end of the semester in which the award is received.


Application requirements:

1) Two written recommendations from two teachers in the Department of Foreign Languages

2) Typed letter of application (600 words or less) to the Scholarship Committee, stating clearly and coherently how the applicant intends to profit from the scholarship. Preference will be given to students intending to use the scholarship to support study and travel abroad. The applicant will indicate in this letter which upper-level courses he/she would like to take upon return from abroad. Top candidates will be interviewed by the committee.

3) Upon completion of the scholarship period, the successful applicant agrees to submit a brief written report and to visit several language classes to share his/her experience with other students to encourage then to become Foreign Language majors/minors.
