Teaching Listening
Pre-listening
- Bring in background knowledge
- Have students brainstorm
- Familiarize them with the new vocabulary
First Listening
- Have students write down words that they hear
- Place these words/cognates on the board
- Have the students guess the meaning of what they have heard
- Give them part of the exercise and have them guess the rest
Directed Listening
- Give the students yes/no questions based on the content
- Give the students visual clues based on the passage
- Give the students information questions based on the passage
